Russia and ASEAN countries have decided to continue and strengthen cooperation in fight against global terrorism as well as in efforts to create a reliable security architecture in the Asia-Pacific region, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday.

SOCHI (Sputnik) — The Russian resort city of Sochi is hosting the Russia-ASEAN summit on May 19-20. The summit is attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and the leaders of ASEAN member states, including Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore, and Laos.

"We are planning to continue strengthening cooperation aimed at creation of a reliable and transparent security architecture in the Asia-Pacific region," Putin said at a news conference following the Russia-ASEAN summit in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

"We will also continue cooperation in the fight against global terrorism, transnational crime, and drug-trafficking," Putin said.
