MOSCOW (Sputnik) — European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker is expected to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in June, though the last-minute changes are always possible, the Deputy Chief Spokeswoman of the European Commission told Sputnik on Friday.
“I can confirm that President Juncker has been invited and is expected to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum but we announce his agenda engagements only a week in advance once everything is confirmed,” Mina Andreeva said.
Earlier in the day, EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan told Sputnik that the expected visit of Juncker to SPIEF may contribute to normalization of relations between Moscow and Brussels.
The SPIEF is an international economics and business event, which attracts politicians, entrepreneurs, scientists and media to discuss the most significant issues for Russia and the global community. The next SPIEF forum is scheduled for June 16-18.
