India's Power Minister was left red-faced following three power cuts during an hour-long press conference on the ministry's achievements.

India's Power Minister Piyush Goyal was left embarrassed as he briefed the nation on his ministry's achievements over the last two years.

"In a significant transformation, India has become power surplus from chronic power shortage. The highest-ever increase in transmission lines and sub-stations improved the transmission scenario resulting in the energy deficit falling to its lowest ever at 2.1% in 2015-16," at which point the power went off, leaving the minister perplexed.

The Minister tried astutely to cover up, "My wife tells me that power should go off once in every program I hold so that I can be sure I have miles to go before I rest and sleep." But his wits failed as the power-cut happened three times during the press conference.

The public wasted no time to poke fun on social media.

Some took advantage of this opportunity to vent their frustration.

The Indian Government claims that the country has witnessed record capacity addition in conventional power and solar power in the last two years which has boosted the power generation.
