MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The WHO convened in Geneva for an emergency meeting to assess the spread of this mosquito-borne hemorrhagic illness and the global stockpile of vaccine against it.
"It was the decision of the Committee that the urban yellow fever outbreaks in Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo is a serious public health event which warrants intensified national action and enhanced international support," WHO said in a statement.
The health agency recommended increasing surveillance and starting mass vaccinations among other measures to stave off the spread of the disease, but added the outbreak did not constitute a public health emergency of international concern at this time.
