US 'Has No Information' on Cause of EgyptAir A320 Crash Yet

John Ketty stated that it was "too early to speculate" on the possible causes of the tragedy ahead of time.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States does not have any information on the possible causes of the EgyptAir Airbus 320 crash in the Mediterranean Sea, US Secretary of State John Kerry stated in a press conference on Thursday. 

"I am not going to speculate at this point of time. I just don’t have the information. Nothing does more harm to people or countries than to start speculating ahead of time. So, I don’t want to do that," Kerry stated. 

Earlier, information agencies and TV networks reported that the plane's debris was found south of the Greek island of Karpathos, close to the spot where a transponder signal was emitted. 

​EgyptAir Flight MS804 departed from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris at 23:09 GMT. The aircraft was heading for Cairo International Airport. According to the airline, there were a total of 66 people on board the plane, including 56 passengers. 

A clear statement on the reasons for the disappearance of the EgyptAir passenger jet over the Mediterranean Sea earlier on Thursday is not expected for several days, the Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister added.
