PARIS (Sputnik) — The French parliament approved on Thursday the extension of the state of emergency in the country for two months starting May 26, citing the necessity to ensure the high level of security during the upcoming summer sport events.
"Euro 2016 and Tour de France this summer require us to double our vigilance. These popular events on the international scale could actually become potential terrorist targets," Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said.
The European football championship will be held in France on June 10-July 10 and the Tour de France cycle race on July 2-July 24.
The state of emergency has been announced in France following the November 13 terrorist attack in Paris.
