UK Man Jailed for Planning Terror Attack Against US Air Bases Personnel

A British man was sentenced to prison for planning a plot to attack soldiers from major US air bases in England, as well as for a plan to go to Syria to join the Daesh in Arabic jihadist group, police said Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — His nephew, Shazib Khan, 23, was jailed for 13 years for plans to join the Daesh in Syria along with his uncle.

"Junead Khan, 25 (29.01.91), from Luton, was told he will serve a minimum of 12 years before he is eligible for parole for engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts and will serve eight years concurrent for a second count relating to his plans to travel to Syria to fight alongside Daesh," the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

Both men were arrested by the UK police last year. According to Metropolitan Police, the investigators seized phones, laptops and thousands of documents from their homes and vehicles. The analysis showed that Junead was in contact with a suspected Islamist fighter in Syria, who offered to help him locate targets for the attack. The officers also found bomb-making guide in Junead's home.

The Daesh, a group outlawed in Russia, the United States and many other countries, seized vast territories in Iraq and Syria. It in notorious for recruiting scores of foreign fighters, mostly via social media.
