A petition to separate Crimea from the Ukrainian territory with a canal and thus tighten the blockade has been registered on President Petro Poroshenko’s website.

KIEV (Sputnik) — According to the petition, once Crimea becomes part of Ukraine again, the canal could be used for fast sea links between the Azov and the Black seas.

"It is necessary to make every effort to tighten the blockade of the occupied territory. Namely, to fence the Crimean Peninsula off from the mainland with an artificial canal across the isthmus. The peninsula will thus become an island, inflicting a lot of problems on the occupying authorities," the petition reads.
