China Close to Completing World's Largest Radio Telescope

Chinese engineers are close to completing the world's largest radio telescope and are preparing to test it soon, local media reported.

BEIJING (Sputnik) — Photos published by CCTV channel show a huge plate of the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST) hanging above the ground high in the mountains in Guizhou province. The construction takes up the space equal to 30 football fields. A total of 1.2 billion yuan have been invested in the project since 2011.

The telescope is connected to one of the fastest astronomy computers Sky Eye 1 and is expected to enhance China's capabilities space exploration.
