Vice-President of the Association of Ukrainian Writers Yuri Andrukhovych believes that by causing Europe even more problems with migration, Ukraine will ultimately become a member of the union.

Andrukhovych called on fellow Ukrainians to "take maximum advantage of the visa-free regime" and flee the home country in legions so as to "create a major problem for the EU".

It will take hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian migrants to push the union to accept Ukraine as a new member, the writer underlined.

"Then we'll be invited in the EU", he said in an interview to the TV channel "112 Ukraine."

Andrukhovych recalled Portugal, claiming that the strategy worked in that 1993 case. According to the writer, the European Commission saved Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany from the flood of Portuguese migrants by accepting the country in the EU.

"Europe would rather fund the country so that it develops on its own rather than tolerate an uncontrollable labor migration in the region", He explained, stressing that Portugal is a small country and that Ukraine would be able to cause more trouble.

"They would have to deal with not just Syrian and African refugees, but with the increasing flood of Ukrainian illegals and labor migrants. They would have to do something about the situation."

The European Commission proposed visa-free travel for citizens of Ukraine on April 20.
