About 30 aircraft of Russia’s Air Force were withdrawn from the territory of Syria, leaving just enough forces in the country for the necessary fight against terrorist groups, according to the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Major-General Igor Konashenkov.

“We showed the withdrawal of our troops from the Hmeymim airbase. Aircraft such as bombers, attack aircraft and Su-25s have been removed. In particular, Su-25s have been fully withdrawn from the airbase,” the general told reporters on Wednesday.

According to the general, in total about 30 aircraft and a significant number of personnel who were engaged in servicing equipment, delivery of ammunition and other material have returned to Russia.

“Currently, there is only as much power as we need in order to perform the tasks in the fight against international terrorist groups Daesh and Jabhat al-Nusra. You have seen today that our planes performed flights for the destruction of international terrorist groups in the region of Raqqa, Arak and Deir ez-Zor,” Konashenkov told journalists.

Talking about the current situation in Aleppo, the general noted that the most problematic issue at hand right now which is stopping the reconciliation process is the daily attacks by terrorists on residential areas of Aleppo and the surrounding suburbs.

“Just yesterday there was an attempt by 300 militants to break into positions of the Syrian government troops near the village of Aleppo,” Konashenkov added.
According to him, the constant attack by terrorists hinders the reconciliation process and disrupts the established ‘silent period’.
