MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The upcoming meeting between UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will focus on the Syrian crisis settlement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Monday.
"Syrian settlement," ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters when answering a question about the topic of the meeting.
The latest round of intra-Syrian talks came to an end on Wednesday without succeeding to reach an agreement or establishing direct negotiations between the Syrian opposition and Damascus. A fresh round of talks has not been scheduled so far.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups. A US-Russia-brokered ceasefire came into force across Syria on February 27.
