US State Secretary John Kerry said the United States looked for cooperation with Russia in resolving the crisis in Syria, expressing hope that the Damascus government would listen to Moscow.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A US-Russia-brokered ceasefire came into force across Syria on February 27. It was supported by Damascus, as well as by dozens of opposition groups on the ground. Despite the deal, violence has been escalating in the country in recent weeks, especially in the northern Aleppo region.

"And so these are critical hours. We look for Russia’s cooperation. We obviously look for the regime to listen to Russia and to respond with the international community’s powerful statement through the UN Security Council," Kerry said in Geneva on Sunday before a meeting with Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh.

Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad fighting several opposition factions and militant groups, such as the Daesh.
