Serbia will welcome Russia's invitation to take part in joint military drills if receives such an offer, the country's Defense Minister Zoran Djordjevic told Sputnik on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Serbian defense chief said the Balkan nation hoped to continue on the path of strengthening its military cooperation with Russia.

"For the past few years we were developing our military cooperation with Russia. This includes an increase in a number of joint military drills. We will be happy to accept an invitation from the Russian side to participate in such events in the future," Djordjevic said.

He added that this year, the two countries are set to hold army exercises and work closer on military education, including exchanges of military schools' students.
