MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) – Panama authorities have conducted another raid at the offices of Mossack Fonseca, a Panama-based law firm accused of being linked to offshore schemes.
"Given the amount of documentation, we proceeded to secure the evidence. We are leaving this building in the custody of the National Police," organized crime investigator Javier Caraballo who was in charge of the raid told reporters on Friday, as quoted by La Prensa.
According to the newspaper, police officers left the Mossack Fonseca building carrying plastic bags with shredded paper.
On April 3, the German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung published materials it claimed came from Mossack Fonseca. The leak appeared to expose the alleged involvement of a number of world leaders and other officials in tax avoidance schemes.
Last week, Panama authorities ceased a vast amount of documentation during a raid on the Panama offices of Mossack Fonseca. The raid was also overseen by Caraballo who said that no actual documents were found at the offices, but investigators seized 100 computer servers where records were stored.
The company said that it was ready to cooperate with Panamanian authorities to assist them in their investigation.
