Syria's Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) believes there is still a chance to settle the years-long conflict in the country politically, PYD co-chair Saleh Muslim said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A new round of indirect talks between Syrian government and opposition factions began in Geneva last week. On Monday, the opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC) walked out of the talks, citing alleged ceasefire violations by government troops.

"The talks in Geneva have almost failed. There are sides that believe the crisis can be solved militarily, and we disagree with that," Saleh Muslim said at a press conference in Moscow.

The Kurdish politician stressed that the Kurdish minority in Syria still believed that it was possible to sit down at the negotiations table in order to stop the five-year-long bloodshed.

Kurds Should Be Represented at Intra-Syria Talks as 'Separate Delegation'
The PYD has not been invited to the negotiations in the Swiss city despite the Kurds being Syria’s largest ethnic minority. Syrian Kurds say they are a part of Syria and do not strive for independence, yet have previously called for more autonomy.

Nevertheless, Saleh Muslim said that the Syrian Kurds should play an integral part in resolution of the crisis in the country.

"Kurds are an important part of the solution to the Syrian crisis. The solution of the Syrian crisis should include the Kurdish problem, as well as the problem of other minorities such as Turkmens, Assyrians. Without them, there would be no solution to the Syrian crisis," Muslim told a press conference in Moscow.
