Eric Schneiderman said that an investigation has been opened after a record number of voter irregularities were reported during Tuesday’s presidential primary elections in New York.

NEW YORK (Sputnik) — An investigation has been opened after a record number of voter irregularities were reported during Tuesday’s presidential primary elections in New York, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said in a statement.

“I am deeply troubled by the volume and consistency of voter irregularities, both in public reports and direct complaints to my office’s voter hotline…that’s why today, we have opened an investigation into alleged improprieties in yesterday’s voting by the New York City Board of Elections,” Schneiderman said Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Attorney General’s office received over 1,000 complaints, a hundred of complaints more than what was received during the previous elections in 2012.

Moreover, the New York City Comptroller’s Office reported that over 125,000 New York City voters were removed from voter rolls due to errors made by the Bureau of Elections (BOE).

“I will do everything in my power to make their vote count and ensure that it never happens again,” Schneiderman added.

More than 2,650,000 residents turned out at the New York primary polls to cast their votes, according to the BOE.

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, the frontrunners for the US Republican and Democratic parties’ presidential nominations, achieved clear victories over their respective challengers in the New York State primary.
