GENEVA (Sputnik) — The Kurdish National Council currently present at intra-Syrian talks in Geneva is ready to ask the opposition's High Negotiations Committee (HNC) leadership to allow the Democratic Union Party (PYD) to take part in negotiations only if they cut all ties with the government and join opposition, Hakim Bashar, representative of the Kurdish National Council to the HNC, told Sputnik on Wednesday.
"They should cut all the relations with the regime <…> If they do what I say <…> I will mediate their participation in Geneva 3 with the HNC," Bashar said.
"I don't have any contacts with Saleh Muslim [PYD leader] so far, but I hope he will receive this call from the media and respond to it," he added.
According to Bashar, the Kurdish National Council seeks "to have a bigger role of Kurds in the negotiation process here."
According to Hakim Bashar, the Kurdish National Council is planning to play an active role in Syria's political transition process and in drafting a new constitution.
"Of course, we are going to play an active role and be partners in the new constitution drafting and in the transitional period as well," Bashar told Sputnik.
The Kurdish National Council is part of the HNC, which is part of the negotiations in Geneva, while the PYD is excluded from the talks at the moment. KNC and PYD have had tense relations in the past.
