MOSCOW (Sputnik) — FIFA President Gianni Infantino will visit Russia and Qatar, the host countries of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup respectively, on April 19-22, the football governing body announced Friday.
"The FIFA President will begin his two-day stay in Russia on 19 April with a visit to Moscow’s Luzhniki stadium, venue of the Opening Match and Final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup," the statement reads.
"From Moscow President Infantino will then embark in the evening of 20 April for Doha, where he will meet, amongst others, senior board members of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy and senior officials of the Qatari government," FIFA said.
Russia and Qatar were awarded the rights to host the FIFA World Cup championships in a statement released by the footballing body in 2010.
Infantio was elected president of FIFA in February after Joseph Blatter announced his resignation from the position amid an ongoing corruption scandal involving the organization.
