Rare and Dangerous Superacid Destroys a Pear
18:27 GMT 14.04.2016 (Updated: 18:28 GMT 14.04.2016)
Watch the effect that highly reactive and very toxic chlorosulfonic superacid has on a pear.
Chlorosulfonic acid is a pungent, clear to yellow colored fuming liquid.
It is corrosive to metal and reacts violently with water, evolving heat and large quantities of white fumes of hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid. This is what it does to a pear.
