ZHUKOVSKY (Moscow Region) (Sputnik) Russia will deliver up to three civil passenger transport helicopters to Cuba, the deputy director of the national civil aviation regulator Rosaviatsia said Thursday.

"We have issued three export certificates to Cuba for our Mi-171 helicopters… A Cuban delegation came here 20 days ago to buy two or three helicopters," Rosaviatsia deputy chief Mikhail Bulanov told reporters at a congress of aircraft makers near Moscow.

A source familiar with the situation said that two helicopters had been purchased for Cuba’s national air carrier Cubana. Russian Helicopters, which builds Mil choppers, declined to comment on this.

The Mi-171 is a medium multirole helicopter that can transport up to 37 paratroopers in full gear on drop-down seats or up to 26 passengers on passenger seats, as well as cargo of up to four tonnes.
