BERLIN (Sputnik) — German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed confidence on Thursday that the ruling coalition would remain in power in the country.
German and European media have repeatedly reported on disagreements within Germany's current government coalition of the Christian-Democratic Party, the Christian Social Union and the Social Democratic Party of Germany. Merkel herself has faced severe criticism, including from Bavaria’s Prime Minister Horst Seehofer, over its open-door migration policy, especially after a series of attacks on women by migrants in Cologne on New Year's Eve.
"I do not have any doubts that we will maintain our cooperation," Merkel said said at a press conference in Berlin, answering a question whether the ruling coalition was due to continue its work.
According to the chancellor, the agenda of the work is clear, and the coalition has already made "significant steps" to implement it.
Seehofer in his turn confirmed that his party had the intention to "take part in the coalition" prior to the parliamentary elections scheduled for 2017.
