Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said that Baku is ready for the start of political process to settle the conflict in Karabakh on the basis of four existing UN Security Council resolutions.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Azerbaijan is ready to begin political process to regulate the crisis in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said Thursday.

The latest wave of violence in Azerbaijan's breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region, mostly inhabited by Armenians, intensified on April 2, leading to multiple casualties before Armenia and Azerbaijan reached a shaky ceasefire deal three days later.

"Azerbaijan is ready for the start of political process to settle the conflict in Karabakh on the basis of four existing UN Security Council resolutions calling for immediate withdrawal of the Armenian Armed Forces from the occupied territories. Azerbaijan's territorial integrity on the basis of internationally recognized borders must be ensured. Based on these principles, we are ready for the start of the political process to regulate the Karabakh conflict," Mammadyarov told the Azertac news agency.
