MOSCOW (Sputnik) — It would be premature to draw any conclusions on possible consequences of the Dutch referendum on the fate of the association agreement between the European Union and Ukraine, a spokesperson for the Belgium Foreign Ministry told Sputnik on Thursday.
"It is too early to evaluate the possible consequences of this referendum," the spokesperson for the ministry said, asked of the vote would prompt Brussels to review the association deal with Ukraine. "We take note of the non-binding referendum in the Netherlands on the Association agreement with Ukraine."
On Wednesday, the Dutch voted in advisory referendum on whether the Netherlands government should ratify the EU-Ukraine association deal signed in 2014, aimed at Kiev's political association and economic integration into the bloc. According to preliminary results, more than 61 percent rejected closer cooperation with Ukraine.
The same day, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said that the Netherlands could reconsider the ratification of the EU-Ukraine association deal as the majority of the population says "no."
