‘Catastrophic Success’: Daesh' Rapid Defeat in Mosul Could Lead to Chaos
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) The US military could establish another firebase in Iraq to support Iraqi security forces moving to liberate Mosul, the Joint Staff vice director for operations, Navy Rear Adm. Andrew Lewis, said in a briefing on Wednesday.

"As Iraqi security forces progress toward isolating Mosul, there may be a situation, in which there is another base that is opened or reopened from years passed that would be used in the same manner as a fire support base," Lewis stated.

Daesh, a terrorist group that is outlawed in Russia and the United States, took Mosul in June 2014 after the US-trained and equipped Iraqi army fled the area, leaving behind significant amounts of US military hardware.
