Kremlin Says No New Information on Possibility of Swapping Savchenko
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia has not yet received a request to transfer Ukrainian national Nadezhda Savchenko, who is currently jailed in Russia for her part in killing Russian journalists in Ukraine, the Russian Justice Ministry said Wednesday.

"As of April 6, an appeal to the Russian Ministry of Justice has not been received," the ministry's press service told RIA Novosti.

In late March, Savchenko received a 22-year prison sentence after being convicted by a Russian court of directing artillery fire during the conflict in eastern Ukraine that led to the deaths of two Russian journalists, Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin, on June 17, 2014.

The Ukrainian national refused to appeal the ruling, but Ukrainian authorities have been trying to organize her transfer, according to Savchenko's lawyers.

Last week, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said there was no information on the possibility of exchanging Savchenko for Russian nationals held in US prisons illegally.
