One Third of Dutch Citizens Do Not Want Ukraine in the EU

According to Sputnik.Polls, one third of the residents of the Netherlands (33 percent), do not support the political and economic association agreement between Ukraine and the EU, as shown by a survey conducted by Populus for the Sputnik news agency and radio.

MOSCOW (Sputnik Press-Office) - The Netherlands will hold a referendum on the political and economic association agreement between Brussels and Kiev, which is an initial step on the road to full EU membership.

According to the Sputnik survey, every third Dutch person — 33%, or 3.5 million people, is opposed to the dealbetween Ukraine and the EU. The share of those who are indifferent is 28 percent, and 20 percent have no opinion on the issue. Just 19 percent of the total Dutch population support the deal.

Other Europeans earlier called for such referendums in their countries. When asked if they support the political and economic association between Ukraine and the EU, most Italians (66%), Germans (63%) and French (63%) replied that they would like a say in the issue of association agreements with other countries through a nation-wide referendum.

The survey was conducted in the Netherlands by Populus Ltd., a leading British polling company, on March 4-9, 2016. The survey involved 1,004 respondents over 18 years of age. The sample is representative of the country's population, proportionately reflecting gender, age, geography and occupation.
