CYBERCOM: Russian Cyber Power Can Inflict Serious Harm to US Infrastructure
15:44 GMT 05.04.2016 (Updated: 10:52 GMT 06.08.2022) Russia has enough cyber warfare capabilities to render significant damage to critical infrastructure in the United States, US Cyber Command (CYBERCOM) Commander Adm. Mike Rogers said in congressional testimony on Tuesday.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Asked if Russian cyber weapons capability can inflict serious harm to US critical infrastructure, Rogers said, "Yes."
The CYBERCOM commander noted that China also has "some measure" of the same cyber warfare capabilities.
The Defense Department, Rogers added, is concerned that the lack of deterrence against malicious cyber behavior emboldens adversaries to exploit US vulnerabilities.
At present, US Cyber Command has 27 teams that are fully operational, and 68 others that have reached initial operating capability. The US plans to establish up to 133 teams to address the country’s cyber security needs, according to the Pentagon.
