Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed hope that the new state government in Jammu and Kashmir will work for the aspirations of the people of the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated and extended best wishes to the Mehbooba Mufti-led government in Jammu and Kashmir and urged it to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of people of the state.

"Congratulations & best wishes to Ms. Mehbooba Mufti, Dr. Nirmal Singh & all those who took oath today," Modi said in a tweet.

​"May the new Government of J&K leave no stone unturned in fulfilling dreams & aspirations of the people & take J&K to new heights of progress," he added.

​Fifty-six-year-old Mehbooba Mufti, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) president, took the oath as the first woman Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, after the party chose her on Thursday. Twenty-three Ministers were sworn in along with Ms. Mufti.
