The second case of Ebola virus was reported in Liberia on Sunday, months after the West African country was declared Ebola-free in January, local health officials said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A five-year-old boy tested positive for Ebola and was admitted to a treatment center in the nation’s capital Monrovia, 9News reported citing Liberian officials.

Is Ebola Back? Disease Kills Woman in Liberia
The boy’s mother and two siblings appear to have crossed into Liberia from Guinea, according to the channel. The mother of three died on Thursday.

Liberia closed the border with Guinea after it registered a flare-up in March. Liberian authorities are investigating how the family was able to get to Monrovia.

The World Health Organization has warned that flare-ups should be anticipated due to virus persistence in some survivors. It stressed that the three Ebola-affected countries — Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone — must maintain strong capacity to prevent further outbreaks.
