There is a possibility that Ukraine may buy liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Australia through Poland or Lithuania, Ukraine’s Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Volodymyr Demchyshyn told Sputnik.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Demchyshyn said that he met with the Australian delegation on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, DC.

“We discussed [LNG deliveries] in general. It is clear that they cannot deliver to Ukraine. But in theory, they can deliver to Poland or Lithuania, and through these terminals we can get gas in Ukraine,” Demchyshyn said. “So far, the conversation was general, the price is not yet being considered. It is still to be calculated.”

Demchyshyn explained that at the moment Ukraine does not have any LNG terminals, and so cannot receive LNG directly.

“We are interested in Australian market. The more gas offers we have, the lower gas price will be. We are the gas customers, and interested in having more of it. If I cannot buy directly, then I will buy indirectly,” Demchyshin added.

Demchyshyn told Sputnik earlier that Ukraine may receive LNG from the United States through Europe.
