EDINBURGH (Sputnik) On Sunday, SNP urged the British government to take in additional refugees after having already settled 400 migrants in Scotland, which is more than needed under the proportional allocation across the United Kingdom.

"We only have to see what has gone on in Brussels and Paris to realise that if the Scottish National Party (SNP) want to bring in more people they will undoubtedly suffer for it at the polls," David Coburn, who is also a member of the European Parliament, said.

Coburn added that the Scottish people were concerned over bringing political and religious issues of the Middle East into Scotland, as well as with security issues connected with the massive influx of refugees fleeing violence and poverty in war-torn regions.

The Scottish parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place on May 5. The SNP currently holds the majority of seats in the parliament, which gives it the right to form the government.
