MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Unites States is following the development of the situation in the Cyprus Larnaca airport, where the EgyptAir flight MS181 with at least 60 people on board landed after being hijacked en route from Egypt’s Alexandria to Cairo, and is verifying whether the US citizens were among the passengers, a State Department official told Sputnik on Tuesday.
"We are closely monitoring the situation and are engaged with relevant local authorities. We are looking into whether US citizens are involved," the official said.
According to Nicosia's police, the EgyptAir hijacker, a single male suicide bomber, remains on board with 5 crew members and 7 passengers.
