One European Commission employee died during the bomb attacks in Brussels while three other EC employees were injured, according to the institution’s deputy chief spokesman.

BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — The recent terror attacks in Brussels claimed the life of one European Commission employee and left three others injured, the institution’s deputy chief spokesman said Tuesday.

"One of our colleagues, as you probably know, has died during the bomb attacks; three colleagues are currently in hospital, they are doing better, but they are still receiving care," Alexander Winterstein said during a daily press briefing.

Two suicide blasts ripped through the Brussels Airport departure hall in the northeastern municipality of Zaventem on March 22. A further explosion occurred at the Maelbeek station near several key EU institutions. A total of 31 people, including 3 suicide bombers, died in the attacks. More than 300 others were injured.

The Islamic State, also known as Daesh, militant group, which is banned in Russia and many other countries, has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
