MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Iraqi federal police have seized 650 explosive devices during an operation, which ended in the arrest of the head of Daesh local mining squads, local media reported Sunday.

"Federal police forces managed to detain a Daesh commander in the area north of Baghdad. The detainee served as a commander of the so-called mining squads. The police seized 650 explosive devices and large quantities of explosives," commander of the federal police Shaker Jawdat said, as quoted by the Iraqi Media News Agency.

On Friday, at least 29 people were killed and another 60 injured in a suicide bombing at a football stadium south of Baghdad. Daesh militants claimed responsibility for the attack.
