US-Led Coalition Against Daesh Carries Out 34 Airstrikes in Iraq, Syria

The US-led coalition against Daesh conducted 26 airstrikes near nine Iraqi cities to the north and west of Baghdad, including Ramadi and Sinjar, with particular focus on Mosul and eight airstrikes near four Syrian cities, including Mara and Palmyra, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against the Islamic State terrorist group, also known as Daesh, conducted 34 airstrikes in Syria and Iraq on Wednesday hitting the groups’ personnel and infrastructure, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release.

"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted eight strikes using ground-attack, attack, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL [Islamic State or Daesh] targets," the release stated on Thursday. "Additionally in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted 26 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using rocket artillery and attack, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets."

Eight coalition airstrikes near four Syrian cities, including Mara and Palmyra, destroyed multiple Daesh tactical units and fighting positions, according to CENTCOM.

The US-led coalition also conducted 26 airstrikes near nine Iraqi cities to the north and west of Baghdad, including Ramadi and Sinjar, with particular focus on Mosul. The strikes destroyed multiple Daesh tactical units, as well as a command and control node, among other targets.

The Daesh is a terrorist group outlawed in the United States, Russia and numerous other countries. The infamous group has seized large areas in Syria and Iraq and declared a caliphate on territories under its control.
