Flights Scheduled to Brussels’ Zaventem Redirected to Regional Airports

Flights, which were scheduled to land at the Zaventem airport in Brussels were redirected to other regional airports, according to a source in Belgocontrol Moscow’s press service.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Flights that were scheduled to arrive in the Zaventem airport in Brussels had been redirected to regional airports following two explosions at the departure hall, a source in Belgocontrol Moscow’s press service told Sputnik.

"Flights, which were scheduled to land at the Zaventem airport had been redirected to other regional airports," the source said.

Flights scheduled to arrive in Brussels airport had been redirected to Liege and Antwerp, among other regional airports following two explosions in Zaventem.

"Traffic had been redirected to Liege, Antwerp…" the source said.

According to the source, the Charleroi and Ostend airports will also be receiving some of the flights initially scheduled to arrive in the Brussels airport.

The source did not clarify the number of flights that had been redirected so far.

Two explosions hit Brussels's Zaventem airport on Tuesday at around 8:00 a.m. local time (07:00 GMT). According to various reports, the explosion killed eleven people, and injured several dozens.

Several international airlines, including Russia's Aeroflot and Finnish Finnair, have diverted their flights to Amsterdam or Dusseldorf, as the Zaventem was closed and evacuated.

Dublin-based Ryanair airline said it had canceled its flights from Brussels following explosions.
