Trump, Clinton Hold Solid Leads Ahead of Tuesday Primaries

US presidential frontrunners from both parties Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump exceed against their party’s opponents, recent poll reveals, according to a new NBC News/Survey Monkey Weekly Election Tracking poll.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump both maintain sizable leads against their party’s opponents as voters from several US states including Ohio and Florida head to the polls on Tuesday, according to a new NBC News/Survey Monkey Weekly Election Tracking poll.

On the Democratic side, the former US secretary of state is leading her rival Senator Bernie Sanders 54 percent to 41 percent, while Republican frontrunner and billionaire Trump is 20 points ahead of his opponents, according to the poll released on Tuesday.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz is trailing behind Trump at 24 percent, followed by Ohio Governor John Kasich at 12 percent and Florida Senator Marco Rubio at 11 percent.

Among different groups, women favor Clinton over Sanders by about 20 points, and the Vermont senator is more favored by Hispanic and white men, while the former secretary of state is favored more by black men.

On the Republican side, Trump has taken a lead among most demographic groups including nearly 50 percent of men, 41 percent of women, 49 percent of those with an high school education level or less, and 47 percent of those with an income less than $50,000.

On Tuesday, voters from the US states of Missouri, Florida, Ohio, Illinois, and North Carolina will head to the polls to take part in their states’ primaries.
