Haytham Manna, the co-chair of the opposition Syrian Democratic Council, told Sputnik on Friday he would not attend the upcoming Geneva talks on the Syrian reconciliation.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A new round of talks between the Syrian government and opposition will be held between March 14 and 24.

"I am not taking part. I have 20 reasons to not participate in the negotiations," Manna said.

The Syrian Democratic Council did not participate in the last round of negotiations either because two Kurdish parties, which are members of the council, were not invited.

"The fact that the Kurds weren't invited is one of the reasons [for not attending talks]," the moderate opposition figure added.

Syrian Kurds have been fighting against Daesh militant group, which is outlawed in many countries, including Russia, for years. The Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) claims that its participation in the intra-Syrian talks was blocked by Ankara because of its assumed links to the pro-independence Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is active in southeastern Turkey and is considered to be a terrorist organization by Ankara.
