The Syrian army has destroyed four Daesh firing positions, a large disguised ammunition depot and a command center northwest of the city of Palmyra, a source in the operational headquarters of the army said Friday.
PALMYRA (Sputnik) – Earlier in March, the Syrian army launched an offensive against the main stronghold of Daesh terrorist group in southeastern part of Homs province.
"Today, according to the information of our spotters, four Daesh firing positions, a large munitions depot which was disguised in a canyon and a command center northwest of Palmyra," the source told RIA Novosti.
Over the past year, Daesh has seized, looted and destroyed several of the world's most important archaeological and cultural sites, including the ancient Palmyra, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Last month, Russia and the United States brokered a truce between the Syrian government and key opposition forces in Syria.
