Russian Embassy Protests 'Well-Organized' Attack on Property in Kiev
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Unknown individuals threw several Molotov cocktails at the Russian Embassy in Kiev in the early hours of Thursday, embassy spokesman Oleg Grishin said.

"Several Molotov cocktails were thrown into the territory of the embassy at about 3 a.m. Fortunately, a fire did not occur," Grishin told RIA Novosti, adding that the perpetrators had been detained by police.

The incident comes after Russian diplomatic staff vehicles parked near the embassy were attacked on Sunday. The same day, a group of protesters threw eggs, flares and stones at the building demanding that Ukrainian national Nadezda Savchenko, currently on trial in Russia for the murder of two Russian journalists, be freed.

Savchenko is suspected of helping to direct artillery fire near the eastern Ukrainian city of Luhansk on June 17, 2014, which led to the death of two Russia journalists, Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin.

In February, a state prosecutor sought a 23-year prison sentence for Savchenko. Savchenko denies all the allegations. The sentencing by a Russian court in the southern region of Rostov has been scheduled for March 21-22.
