The United States has been targeting the chemical weapons locations of Daesh in Iraq for the last several weeks using the information provided by a captured terrorist operative, the US media reported on Wednesday.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States has used the information for its airstrikes aimed at chemical weapons sites provided by Daesh operative captured three weeks ago in Iraq, CNN reported citing several US officials.
The US media outlet noted that while some officials referred to him as "the key leader," others could not confirm whether he was in charge of the entire Daesh chemical weapons program.
In February, CIA Director John Brennan said that Daesh terrorist group has used chemical weapons in Syria and Iraq, and had capabilities to produce small amounts of mustard gas or chlorine gas and possibly export it to the Western countries.
The CIA chief stated US intelligence was actively involved in searching for chemical weapons or labs producing those in Syria and Iraq.
