US-Led Coalition Carries Out 17 Airstrikes Against Daesh in Syria, Iraq

The US-led coalition's aircraft delivered 11 airstrikes on Daesh terrorists in Iraq and six in Syria.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition carried out 17 airstrikes against Daesh terrorists in Syria and Iraq targeting the group’s oil and gas infrastructure, tactical units and mortar fire positions, the Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) said in a press release on Wednesday.

"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted six strikes using attack and fighter aircraft against ISIL [Daesh] targets," CJTF-OIR stated. "Additionally in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 11 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using attack, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL [Daesh] targets."

In Syria, the coalition launched six airstrikes on Tuesday in and around three Syrian cities. Near Deir Ez-Zor, the coalition struck a Daesh modular refinery and a Daesh natural gas processing plant, two cranes close to Abu Kamal and a tactical unit and several fighting positions near Mara.

Coalition forces in Iraq conducted 11 airstrikes in and around five Iraqi cities including Mosul and Ramadi. The coalition targeted vehicles, vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIEDs), fighting positions, assembly areas and tactical units.

The US-led coalition of nearly 60 nations has been conducting airstrikes against Daesh first in Iraq and later Syria since 2014 — albeit without the approval of the Syrian government or the UN Security Council
