Media analyst and author Mark Dice, who has a show on Youtube, surveyed several Americans, asking who the nation’s capital is named after. The survey displayed some depressing results.

Asked "who is our nation's capital named after," one woman responded, "Erm, OK, umm, see why you gotta ask me something like that, can I Google it?"

This was only the tip of the iceberg as other replies included, "You have to tell us, I have no idea," "I don't really care," and "I'm gonna have to go with….yeah I don't know."

At the end of the video Dice asks an Italian couple on vacation, who immediately answer correctly. They express their amazement that many Americans are unaware that Washington DC was named after the Commander in Chief of the Continental Army and first President of the United States, George Washington.

Dice's Youtube show, named "Man on the Street Monday Interviews," is conducted on the streets of San Diego, California.
