"Turkey has offered the European Union to sent to the country a million of migrants, who would have been denied asylum at the EU territory in three years starting from June 1. In exchange, Turkey demands in addition to the €3 billions of [$3.28 billion at current exchange rates] already promised by the European Union, an additional financial assistance of at least €2 billion a year… Besides that, Ankara requested to introduce the visa-free regime for the short trips of the Turkish citizens to the European Union as early as this spring," the source told RIA Novosti.
The source added that Turkey also requested to fasten the process of negotiations on Ankara's accession to the 28-nation bloc.
The previous similar summit between Turkey and the European Union on the migration issues was held in November 2015. The sides approved a joint plan to counter excessive migration into the bloc, under which EU member states will give some €3 billions of to Ankara and fast track negotiations for its accession to the bloc. In turn, Turkey is to help protect EU borders from illegal crossings, and is expected to agree to resettle refugees that have managed to get to Europe from Turkey.
