The Sukhoi Su-25SM is an upgraded version of the Su-25,  a single-seat, twin-engine jet aircraft developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau. It is designed to provide close air support for the Russian army's ground forces.

Earlier, it was reported that Russia will continue to upgrade its outdated Su-25 attack aircraft to Su-25SM jets, which feature  ignificantly better survivability and combat effectiveness. The Russian Aerospace Forces plan to modernize about 80 Su-25s by 2020.
