IAEA chief Yukiya Amano reiterated his calls to Syria to cooperate with the IAEA to settle unresolved issues connected to an alleged nuclear site in Deir ez-Zur.

VIENNA (Sputnik) — The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is worried over the lack of information on the implementation of Syria’s nonproliferation commitments, IAEA chief Yukiya Amano said Monday in a statement.

"As far as implementation of safeguards in the Syrian Arab Republic is concerned, there have been no new developments since my last report to the Board," the statement reads.

Amano also reiterated his calls to Syria to cooperate with the IAEA to settle unresolved issues connected to an alleged nuclear site in Deir ez-Zur.

In 2011, the IAEA claimed a site in the Syrian province destroyed by an Israeli airstrike had been a nuclear reactor under construction, but failed to confirm the allegations, as Syrian authorities refused to cooperate with the agency’s inspectors. Damascus denied the allegations.
