Ashton Carter is to announce US Defence reform campaign at the Pentagon in "just a few weeks’ time," US military media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter plans to propose reforms at the Pentagon in "just a few weeks’ time," US military media reported.

"We’ll propose things as we conclude our studies of them," Carter said as quoted by the Defense News tabloid on Friday, detailing measures that would and would not require Congress approval.

The publication states some of the proposals include improving the Pentagon’s use of cyber capabilities and giving the House and Senate Armed Services committees more say in the acquisition system.

Carter’s anticipated proposal comes as the US Congress begins drafting the 2017 defense policy bill, seen as a vehicle for reforms.

The draft Fiscal Year 2017 budget, which begins in September 2016, earmarks $583 billion on defense policy, constituting a $2-billion increase from the previous year.
