MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The United States' envoy to the international coalition against Islamic State (IS, or Daesh in Arabic) said Saturday that the jihadist group is "losing" in Syria and Iraq due to the pressure from multiple directions.

"Daesh is feeling pressure now from all simultaneous directions and that’s going to continue… Daesh is losing," Brett McGurk said, as quoted by English-language edition of Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.

US Anti-Daesh Coalition Announces Mosul Liberation Campaign in Iraq
Since 2014, vast territories in Iraq and neighboring Syria have been occupied by Daesh, which has proclaimed a caliphate on the land under its control. The terrorist group has carried out numerous terror attacks and committed many human rights atrocities in the country.

A US-led coalition of about 60 nations has been conducting airstrikes against the Daesh positions in both Syria and Iraq. Moscow has been leading a separate campaign in Syria against Daesh, banned in Russia, following a request from Damascus.
