The US Navy awarded contracts to five electrical power-providing companies for new construction, repair and the renovation of dry utilities construction projects throughout the American southwest.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) —Five electrical power-providing companies or utilities have won $99 million worth of construction and renovation contracts for the US Navy throughout the American southwest, the Department of Defense announced.

"Fed Con/South Bay JV, San Diego, California; KKP Electrical Contractors, Boise, Idaho; NEI Contracting and Engineering, Chula Vista, California; Procal Electric, Twentynine Palms, California; and Synergy Electric Co., Santee, California, are each being awarded… contract[s]," the announcement stated on Wednesday.

The contracts are for new construction, repair and the renovation of dry utilities construction projects at various locations within the Naval Facilities Engineering Command in the southwest area of responsibility of the United States, the Defense Department noted.

"Types of projects may include, but are not limited to: electrical distribution systems, exterior lighting systems, airfield lighting systems, communications and security systems, grounding systems, and related work," the announcement explained.

The contracts cover the next five years with an expected completion date of March 2021, the Defense Department added.
